I am interested in teaching a variety of courses in the areas of personality, psychopathology, and clinical-counseling psychology at both the undergraduate and graduate level. In addition to courses that I have already taught, I have specific interests in teaching courses in health psychology, stress and coping, and advanced graduate seminars in personality test construction and validation, emotion, and research methods in personality and psychopathology.

Apart from wanting to share with students material I find fascinating, three aspirations motivate my teaching: (1) Producing informed citizens capable of critical thinking; (2) generating excitement about the joy of discovery; and (3) challenging students to be sensitive to the importance of context as an aspect of psychological science with implications for their development of interpersonal skills. More broadly, I believe that people learn best when they are faced with challenges in a supportive environment.
Not surprisingly, as a psychologist with an abiding personal and professional interest in how context shapes and is shaped by human activity, I find that the different contexts in which I teach require different methods. These are described in the specific links below.
