In this context, the challenge is to foster an atmosphere in which students can play an active role in fostering critical thinking among each other, sharing excitement about the joy of discovery, and challenging each other--and me. Thus, students take responsibility for preparing some presentations and discussions, and assignments require thoughtful writing, experiential learning, and creative problem-solving. In addition to my fundamental responsibility to cover appropriate content, I see my responsibility as modeling intellectual excitement and a commitment to learning, while supporting it in my students. This is a major aspect of the support I provide with the intellectual challenges of the course material.
