Department of Psychology at Illinois State University

Course Override

SPRING 2009 Advance Registration
October 6 - November 5, 2008

  • Graduate students in the doctoral or specialist programs in School Psychology should contact Dr. Mark Swerdlik for a course override.

  • Graduate students in the Counseling-Clinical Psychology program should contact Dr. Karen Mark for a course override.
  • All other graduate students (those admitted to one of the four sequences of the master's program in psychology or students from other departments) should complete an override request. A separate form must be filled out for each course. The form is in Microsoft Word. Click on the link to download the form to the computer's desktop. The form should be filled in on the computer, saved to the computer's desktop as an MS Word 2003 (.doc) file, and electronically submitted as an e-mail attachment to the appropriate individual listed below.

For graduate students admitted to the master's program in psychology, e-mail the form as an attachment to your sequence coordinator.

For graduate students admitted to a department other than psychology, submit the form as an e-mail attachment to the individual indicated below, based on the PSY course number:

Once the form has been electronically submitted to the appropriate individual, that person will contact the course instructor to discuss the enrollment issues (e.g., to confirm the equivalence of prerequisite courses taken elsewhere, to assess the impact of approval on course enrollment numbers, etc.). The program/sequence coordinator for the area responsible for the course may also be consulted. Once approval has been obtained for the override, then the override request will be forwarded via e-mail to the graduate secretary, Nancy Nickerson, and should also be copied to the course instructor (and the program/sequence coordinator for the area responsible for the course, if he or she was consulted). Once the graduate secretary has entered the override in the University's Mainframe, an e-mail confirming the approval and override entry will be sent to the student. After this notification has been received, students must then register for the course; students may not register for the course until the notice of approval has been received. Override approval may expire if students fail to register for the PSY course in a timely matter.
