    a) make a frequency distribution table
    b) make a histogram
    c) describe the shape of the distribution
    d) compute the mean of the distribution
    e) compute the standard deviation of the distirbution (assume that it is a sample)
    f) Convert each score into a z-score
    g) plot a histogram of the z-scores
    h) how do the histograms in (g) and (b) compare?

2) A researcher studied the relation between psychotherapists' degree of empathy and their patients' satistaction with therapy. As a pilot study, four patient-therapist pairs were studied. Here are the results:

PairTherapist
Empathy
Patient
Satisfaction

1704
2945
3362
4481

    a) plot a scatterplot of these data
    b) describe the relationship between the two variables
    c) compute the Pearson's r-correlation
    d) compute the regression equation, predicting patient satisfaction
    e) compute the SSerror of the equation

3) Suppose that people living in the city have a mean score of 40 and a standard deviation of 5 on a measure of concern about the environment. Assume that these concern scores are normally distributed. Approximately what percentage of people have a score

    a) above 35
    b) above 40
    c) above 30
    d) above 37
    e) below 45
    f) below 52

4) For each of the following:

    a) say what two populations are being compared
    b) state the research hypothesis
    c) state the null hypothesis
    d) say whether you should use a one-tailed or two-tailed test and why

    i) Do Canadian children whose parents are librarians score higher than Candian children in general on reading ability?
ii) Is the level of income for residents of a particular city different from the level of income for people in the region?
