3 in-class exams = 300 points total (100 pts each)
Research Project = 120 points
9 Homework Assignments= 180 points total (20 pts each)
Total points possible = 600 points

Components of Your Grade:

1) Three in-class exams: Three exams (worth up to 100 points each) will test students’ conceptual and mathematical understanding of hypothesis testing. Exam questions may include short answer and multiple choice and each exam is cumulative due to the nature of the material. Exams will cover material from lecture and the textbook.

2) Research Project: Each student will complete a research project during the semester. The project involves (a) choosing a research question and data set from a list provided by the instructor; (b) choosing an appropriate statistical test for testing a hypothesis about the problem chosen; (c) running the appropriate test using SPSS; (d) interpreting the SPSS output; (e) writing a 5- to 7-page paper describing the problem and the conclusions from the statistical test(s). This project will test students’ ability to apply and conduct an inferential statistic to a specific problem of interest. The research report must be written in APA style. More information will be provided throughout the semester.

3) Homework: The nine homework assignments are worth up to 20 points each. Completing these assignments is essential to understanding the concepts and practicing skills. Assignments are designed to assess students’ knowledge of the specific statistical tests, the application of those tests to data, and the computation of those tests in SPSS. Homework assignments will be announced in class at least one week before the due date.

The following point totals are required for each possible course grade:
A = 540-600 points
B = 480-539 points
C = 420-479 points
D = 360-419 points
F = less than 360points
