SELECTED CONSULTING EXPERIENCES
„ Consultant, American Psychological Association, Lesbian,
Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Concerns Office, Washington, DC, 2007. I was
asked to serve as a consultant for an Amici Curiae brief
prepared by APA regarding a case appearing before the California Supreme Court
. The case challenged California laws concerning gay marriage.
„ Expert Witness, I was retained by the U.S. Equal Employment
Opportunity Commission as an expert witness in several employment
discrimination cases: EEOC v. Featherlite Manufacturing, Inc.
(1994-1996), EEOC v. General Electric Co. (1997-1998) and EEOC v. Wyeth d/b/a
Fort Dodge Animal Health. (2002-2003). I also served as an expert for the U.S. Department of Justice
in the gender-based discrimination case of United States v. Richard
Mills, Richard Mills d/b/a Chestnut Properties, and Albert Beland (2001). In addition, I have worked as
an expert witness and consultant in many other discrimination cases throughout
the United States, from Rhode Island to Hawaii.
„ Consultant, American Psychological Association,
Public Policy Office, Washington, DC, 1993. I participated in a team of researchers assembled by the
American Psychological Association to prepare a commentary of the 1993 EEOC
proposed Guidelines on Harassment Based upon Race, Color, Religion, Gender,
National Origin, Age, or Disability .
These guidelines make significant progress toward clarifying how many
forms of harassment can constitute discrimination.
„ Consultant, American Psychological Association,
WomenÕs Program Office, Washington, D.C., 1993. I participated in a team of
researchers assembled by the American Psychological Association to aid in the
preparation of an Amicus Brief filed by APA in the case of Harris v.
Forklift Systems, Inc.
This case appeared before the Supreme Court and determined some important
issues in sexual harassment litigation.
„ Social Science Analyst, U.S. Department of Defense, Defense
Mapping Agency (DMA), Equal Opportunity Division, Fairfax, VA, 1991-92. I
designed and conducted an agency-wide survey to assess the incidence of sexual
harassment in DMA, an agency with over 8,000 employees. I analyzed the data
from this survey and then prepared numerous reports on my findings. I gave
presentations about the survey findings to numerous divisions of DMA. Finally,
I formulated a set of policy recommendations to alleviate sexual harassment
problems in DMA.
„ Faculty Research Associate, U.S. Department
of Defense, Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI), Cocoa
Beach, Florida, 1988. I worked with a team of DoD social scientists in
designing a world wide survey of sexual harassment across all branches of the
military and the coast guard. A tech report, presentations, and several
publications resulted from this work.
