Department of Psychology at Illinois State University

Graduate Program in School Psychology

Welcome to the School Psychology Programs at Illinois State University! We are very proud of our doctoral (PhD) and specialist (SSP) degree programs in School Psychology and our long history of educating school psychologists dating back to the 1950s. The program was one of the first in Illinois to receive approval from the State Teacher Certification Board and now has well over 500 alumni working throughout Illinois and in a number of states across the nation.

Our graduate programs in school psychology have all of the available accreditations and approvals suggested for higher quality training, comprehensive curricular content, and properly supervised field experiences. Our doctoral program is accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association (APA, 750 First Street, NW, Washington, DC 20002-4242, 202/336-5979). The doctoral program is also approved by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). Our specialist program in School Psychology is approved by NCATE and NASP. Both programs are approved by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
