Standards for Progress in the Major in Psychology

In order to remain in the Major in Psychology, students must achieve the standards identified below based on their Undergraduate Catalog.

After completing 75 hours, academic records for students in the Major will be reviewed. Students not fulfilling all of the standards for progress will be dismissed from the Major in Psychology.

2005-2007 Undergraduate Catalogs

Students under the 2005-2006, or 2006-2007 Undergraduate Catalog must have achieved the following by the time they have completed 75 hours:

  • Maintain a 2.0 or higher cumulative Illinois State grade point average (GPA);
  • Maintain a 2.2 or higher Psychology Major GPA (based on all courses taken at Illinois State for the Major); and
  • Earn a grade of C or better in PSY 111, 138 (formerly ECO/GEO/POL/PSY 138), 200, and 231.

2-007-2008 Undergraduate Catalog

Students must meet the following requirements by the time they have completed 75 hours:

  • Maintain a 2.0 or higher cumulative Illinois State grade point average (GPA);
  • Maintain a 2.2 or higher Psychology Major GPA (based on all courses taken at Illinois State for the Major); and
  • Earn a grade of C or better in
    • PSY 111, 138, 200, and 231;
    • MAT 120, 121, 144, or 145; and
    • a lab science course,
