Overview
The Major in Psychology consists of a fixed number
of PSY courses plus courses in other disciplines
that complement psychology. Additional courses
in English prepare students to write reports;
courses in Mathematics prepare students
for data analysis; and Philosophy and
the lab sciences courses enhance students’ analytic
reasoning skills essential in the field of psychology.
The number of hours of PSY courses required
for the Major in Psychology is 37-41, depending
on students' Undergraduate Catalog.
Many students enroll in more than the minimum
number of required hours.
The Department of Psychology has identified
10 objectives for PSY courses to enhance the
teaching of psychology. The
Description of Objectives and Courses
identifies and explains these objectives. When
considering electives, students should also choose
courses that focus on an area of interest or enroll in a variety
of courses for a broad base in psychology. Students
interested in graduate school are advised to
enroll in a research opportunity or an internship
in their area of interest for at least one semester.
