Faculty at Illinois State maintain a strong commitment to undergraduate
instruction and mentoring. Every semester, approximately
100 undergraduate psychology students work with faculty,
either on an individual basis or in small teams, on
meaningful psychological research. Students report that
these experiences are among the most valuable aspects
of their educational experience. Students primarily
work with faculty on research projects by enrolling
in PSY 290 Special Projects: Research Apprenticeship
(formerly PSY 290.01) and PSY 390 Advanced Research
Apprenticeship. Students also study specialized topics,
with faculty direction, by enrolling in PSY 287 Independent
Study and IDS 395.03 Honors Thesis: Psychology.
Students can also work with
faculty to assist with teaching activities by in PSY
291 Special Projects: Undergraduate Teaching (formerly
PSY 290.02) and PSY 391 Scholarship of Teaching and
Learning Apprenticeship. To learn about these opportunities,
students should contact faculty members who are teaching
courses that are of interest.
The following list identifies the many research opportunities available
to students through the Research Apprenticeship Program.
