PSY Course Override

SPRING 2010 Advance Registration
October 5 through November 4

Override approval is not guaranteed; students should register for an alternate course in case their override request is not approved. Priority for approving an override is based on credit hours closest to graduation and other considerations. All override decisions for closed psychology courses are made after Advance Registration closes. Students will be notified through their University e-mail account only if their override request is approved by the department. It is the student's responsibility to use an approved override to register for the psychology course as soon as possible. If an override is approved, students should drop their alternate course and register for the psychology course. Override approval may expire if students fail to register for the psychology course in a timely manner.

Override requests will be accepted for:
  • PSY 200 Careers in Psychology
  • PSY 231 Research Methods in Psychology
  • PSY 253 Cognition and Learning
  • PSY 263 Physiological Psychology
  • any PSY 300-level course (except PSY 302)

Override requests WILL NOT be accepted for:
  • any PSY 100-level course
  • PSY 213 Lifespan Development
  • PSY 215 Educational Psychology
  • PSY 223 Social Psychology
  • PSY 230 Business and Industrial Psychology
  • PSY 233 Psychology of Personality
  • PSY 302 Adolescent Development

Closed PSY Course Override

Students should try to register for the PSY course before completing an override request. Be sure all prerequisite courses have been satisfied; check the appropriate Undergraduate Catalog. If unable to register for a PSY course because the course is identified as closed, students should submit an override request on their specific registration date. The override request link will be available only during Advance Registration.

Click on the link to download the override request form to the computer's desktop. The form is an interactive Microsoft Word document that must be completed on the computer and saved as a Word .doc file. Other formats, such as Vista Word, .rtf, or .txt files are not compatible. A separate form must be completed for each override request. Send the completed override request as an e-mail attachment. Include the PSY course number (i.e., PSY 231, 331.07, 350, etc.) in the e-mail subject line. Incomplete override requests will not be considered for approval.

The override request form and e-mail links will not be available after Advance Registration closes on November 4.

Prerequisite Course Override

If students have completed the prerequisite course and a grade recorded, and the PSY course is not closed, but students cannot register for the PSY course, contact Dr. Karen Mark by e-mail for a prerequisite override. Indicate in the e-mail subject line that the request is for a "prerequisite override." Do not submit the PSY override request form.

Other Courses

Contact the specific department or school for a course override.
