Department of Psychology at Illinois State University
Override requests for psychology courses will be accepted ONLY during Advance Registration.
Override approval is not guaranteed, so students should register for an alternate course. When informed that a PSY override has been approved, students should drop the alternate course and register for the approved PSY course. Priority for override approval is based on credit hours closest to graduation.
If the PSY override is approved, students will be notified by ISU e-mail. It is the students' responsibility to use approved overrides to register for PSY courses as soon as possible. Most decisions about override approval will be made after Advance Registration ends, so students should continue to check their ISU e-mail for override information. If an override is approved after Advance Registration ends, students should register for PSY courses during Registration and Program Change. Override approval can expire if students fail to register for PSY courses in a timely manner.
Override requests will be accepted for:
PSY 200 Careers in Psychology
PSY 231 Research Methods in Psychology
any PSY 300-level courses (see exception below)
Override requests WILL NOT be accepted for:
any PSY 100-level courses
any PSY 200-level courses (see exception above)
PSY 302 Developmental Psychology of Adolescence
Override requests for a closed PSY class:
The department is no longer accepting overrides requests
for fall 2008 courses. Override requests are accepted
only during Advance Registration. The override request
form and the e-mail address will not be available until
Advance Registration for spring 2009 semester
(in mid-October).
Requesting a prerequisite course override:
If
the PSY course is not full, the prerequisites
for the PSY course have been completed and a grade recorded
(at Illinois State or another institution), and the
system will not allow students to register for the PSY
course, contact Dr. Karen Mark by e-mail for
a prerequisite override. Do not submit the PSY override
request form.
Override requests for students in the Minor in
Psychology:
For students in the Psychology Minor requesting
an override for PSY 231, contact Dr. Karen Mark by e-mail.
Override requests for other courses:
For an override in
a non-PSY course, contact the specific department.
